Optimal Kids Essential Wellness Exam

Our standard comprehensive new patient appointment includes:
- Thorough Medical and Dental History Review: Understanding your child’s overall health and previous experiences.
- Extraoral Examination: Evaluating the head, neck, and jaw (including TMJ function, facial growth, lymph nodes, head and neck cancer screening)—with a customized approach tailored to each patient’s level of cooperation and specific sensory needs—to detect abnormalities and ensure healthy development.
- Intraoral Examination: Inspecting the inside of the mouth (including teeth, gums, tongue, and other soft tissues)—with a customized approach based on each patient’s cooperation level and sensory needs—to identify cavities, gum disease, oral abnormalities, screen for oral cancer, and to assess bite alignment and oral habits.
- Radiographic Examination (X-Rays): Utilizing low-radiation digital X-rays (and only taking the X-rays required for that visit) to detect hidden dental issues—such as cavities between teeth, tooth development problems, and bone abnormalities—to provide a comprehensive view of your child’s oral health.
- Personalized Oral Hygiene and Dietary Guidance: Educating on best practices for home care.
- Behavioral Management Techniques: Ensuring a positive and stress-free experience.
- Customized Treatment Planning: Addressing any current issues and planning for future needs.

For families who are practicing a holistic lifestyle and are interested in a more in-depth evaluation, our Integrative Wellness Assessment offers additional services beyond the standard comprehensive new patient appointment.
These enhanced evaluations are designed to provide a deeper understanding of your child’s overall health, focusing on the interconnectedness of oral health with systemic health, growth, development, and lifestyle factors.
The Integrative Wellness Assessment includes everything in the Essential Oral Health Checkup and builds upon it:
- In-Depth Examination of Oral Functional Issues: Identifying tongue ties, lip ties, and other restrictions that can affect feeding, speech, and breathing.
- Screening for Orofacial Disorders: valuating oral habits and muscle function to identify issues affecting breathing and growth and development.
- Screening for Airway and Sleep Issues: Recognizing signs of sleep-disordered breathing that can affect growth, behavior, and cognitive function.
